Welcome
The Homer Alumni Association would like to thank you for your interest in visiting our page. Our goal is to keep our school memories at Homer Community Schools as fresh as when they happened and to share them with others at our annual gathering. Along the way we try to keep track of our alumnus and offer the graduating seniors and alumnus who are planning to attend or continue to attend college, an opportunity to apply for the Dewayne Ballentine Alumni Scholarship and the Kathy Hickerson Mills Scholarship. May your memories of attending HHS always bring a smile and make you feel that "Homer is Home". Ronald H. Burris, Alumni President Class of 1969

The “Dewayne Ballentine” and  “Kathy Hickerson MillsScholarship Funds
The Dewayne Ballentine Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in May of 1985 after the sudden death of Mr. Ballentine. Dewayne as one of the founding fathers of the First Alumni Banquet and never missed a year of working on the banquet. In honor and in memory of Dewayne for his many years of service, The Scholarship is in his honor and named after him. A total of over 100 seniors and alumni have been awarded scholarships in his honor.

The Kathy Hickerson Mills Scholarship is new this year. Kathy was a beloved employee at the school for many years as business manager and became an important  part of the schools personality. The scholarship was set up in her memory and is for seniors who will be attending Kellogg Community College and not in the top 10 of graduating seniors.

Many fundraisers, gifts in kind and remembrances of loved ones, have helped our scholarships to grow and continue to aid in the education of Homer graduates. The board of directors thanks you for your gifts and assure you that they are going to a great cause and very grateful recipients. Should you like to gift monies to the Dewayne Ballentine or  Kathy Hickerson Mills   Scholarship Funds, in "Memory Of" an individual or just as a gift, mail a check in any amount to: HOMER Community Schools /Alumni Association  with the appropriate scholarship mentioned in the Memo of the check to  403 S. There will be a tour of the new school at 1:30 followed by a light meal at 3:00 p.m in the Middle School/High School cafeteria. A short business meeting will start at 3:30 then the ABC's "Honored Alumnus of the Year" awards, honored class introductions, the announcement of the Dewayne Ballentine and Kathy Hickerson Mills Scholarship Alumni recipients follow the meal. The Senior Class recipients of the Ballentine and Hickerson Scholarships will also be announced at the annual Honors Assembly. Applications for these two scholarships may be found on the “Alumni” Tab on the HHS website. www.homerschools.net All HHS Alumni Forms and Scholarship Applications.” be found here. We end with all attendees standing, singing the "Orange and Black".

We found out from past years that our attending members were grateful of the earlier starting time. Many of the honored classes gathered on their own afterwards to reminisce, without a worry of making it too long of a day. Where? and When? you may ask does all of this take place. As always, on the Saturday of Mothers Day Weekend and in the Old Gymnasium at HHS. But because of the demolition of the old school this year we will be in the Middle School/ High School cafeteria. Next year we will be back at the old gymnasium. The cost? $13.50 per person. Dinner Reservations must be paid in advance.

To attend this annual event, Reservations and payment in advance is required. Reservations can not be accepted by E-Mail. Mail reservations and payment to: Beverly Klinkel, 5084 22 Mile Rd. Homer, Michigan 49245. Reservations must be received by Wednesday of the week prior to the event. For more information contact us by clicking on our link above or by calling 517-568-4277 Hope to see you there. Our attendance at last years gathering was 158.

“A message from our Superintendent”
Homer High School Alumni: I have exciting news to share with all of you. Over the past fifteen months Homer Community Schools has undergone major building changes. We have completed our brand new 64,000 square foot middle school/high school structure and are on target to finish remodeling the existing. The original two-story structure is scheduled to be demolished beginning the first week of April, and the entire project will be completed by the start of school next September.
I understand the original building that was completed in 1947 holds many memories and we will all be sad to see out old friend leave us, but we are continuing to make Homer Community Schools a strong school district with a bright future. Homer continues to be a “Great Place to Learn” now and for future generations to come.

During the homecoming festivities last October, Homer held a ceremony to open a time capsule that was placed in the cornerstone to the 1947 building. we found a wealth of information about the school, about the times around World War II and the people who were responsible for the building. The largest surprise was the artifacts from the original 1890 time capsule that were placed in the building that burnt in 1943 and artifacts under the Rock that were placed as a memorial to the Spanish – American War in 1898. We did forward everything we found into the new time capsule behind the 2013 cornerstone in the new building.

I look forward to giving you a tour of our new building in May. As always, thank you for making Homer Community Schools the “Destination District”

Yours in academic excellence,
Rob Ridgeway
Superintendent
